Exercise, a short cut to inner peace

Exercise is meditation
Sleeping under a bridge
I spent last night sleeping under a bridge. It was incredibly peaceful even with the occasional semi that rumbled over, shaking debris on to my tent 30 feet down. I had ridden my bike about 70 miles and I was exhausted. My fear of camping in the open and having a rancher wake me up with a gun was no longer a concern. I was too exhausted from pulling a bicycle trailer that felt more like a corpse roped to my back wheel. When I stumbled across the bridge I felt relieved to find such a secluded safe place to spend the night. Read more…
I leave for Alaska today and I am afraid
I am afraid
If you didn’t already know I am riding my bicycle to Alaska from southern California. After telling people this they usually say, “You’re nuts!” and then ask me a bunch of questions. The number one question I get incessantly asked is “Where you are you going to stay?” I shrug my shoulders slightly and give a little grin, “I don’t know…” This unnerves a lot of people and I get a little shot of, I’m cooler than you. This exchange usually continues with, “Well are you going to stay at hotels? Campgrounds?” I respond with, “No I think I am going to camp when I feel tired” Another shot of the cool drug, after all the trip is two weeks out and putting my money where my mouth is, is still a ways away. The next question is usually “Aren’t you worried?” I usually soften a bit at this one and tell the truth, “Yeah I am but I guess that is part of the excitement.” Read more…
The danger of sharing your dreams

Abunai! (danger!)
The Japanese have a lot of words that they use quite heavily. Similar words are not used in western culture because they do not support our internal cultural beliefs. Sugoi! In English means Wow! And is used copiously to reinforce the tight social network Japanese hold to rather than to express constant excitement. Another is the heavy use of “desho?” or “ne?” which comes at the end of the sentence and basically means “right? Don’t you agree??” in other words, please reaffirm that I am part of the group. The one word that confused me for the longest time was the word “abunai” which basically means “danger!” This was yelled at me so many times in Japan that I started to wonder if they got the word handsome and dangerous mixed up? Alaska on the horizon

Slow down
I will be leaving on the 10th of August and hopefully arriving on 10th of October. The destination will be Ketchikan Alaska where my friend Casey’s father lives. I will still be maintaining mikethemasterdater.com but at the same time I will be adding here!
A couple of questions I keep getting.
Do you mean motorcycle? No, I am riding my bicycle with a trailer
Isn’t that dangerous? Yes… No…? I think driving is dangerous but I still do it. Read more…
